THE LEAD
Arteta Gets His Deal. His Champions Get a Warning.
The BBC reported on Tuesday morning that Arsenal and their manager have agreed terms on a new long-term contract. It lands three days after Brighton & Hove Albion pulled the champions apart on the south coast, and the sequence tells you a great deal about how this club now sees itself.
There is a particular kind of week that only happens to a club that has finally won something. Sami Mokbel of the BBC reported on Tuesday morning that Mikel Arteta has agreed a new long-term contract at Arsenal, with a significant rise on the roughly 10 million pounds a year he currently earns. No end date has been made public and no announcement has been issued. The old deal ran only to 2027, and for most of this year the absence of a new one has been the quiet hum underneath everything else at London Colney.
That hum has now stopped. What has not stopped is the noise from Saturday evening, when Brighton & Hove Albion beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Amex and made it look less like an upset than an inevitability. Pascal Gross struck from distance on the half hour. Charalampos Kostoulas added a second on the stroke of half time, fifteen seconds after Bukayo Saka had tamely missed a chance to equalise. Chema Andres headed in a corner nine minutes into the second half. It was the first defeat of the season, the end of a seven-match winning run, and the first time since the title was won in May that anyone had been able to say out loud that this Arsenal side looked ordinary.
The timing is coincidence rather than cause and effect. But put the two stories side by side and you get the truest picture of Arsenal in September 2026 that anyone is going to draw: a club that has decided the manager is the answer, and is now discovering that the squad still has a question in it.

LAST SEASON
Champions of England. Champions League runners-up. EFL Cup runners-up.
Start with the defeat, because it was more instructive than the scoreline. Brighton & Hove Albion pressed Arsenal from the first throw-in, which is close to the phrase Arteta reached for afterwards, and the champions had no coherent way through it. David Raya was imprecise with the ball at his feet and the nervousness travelled up the pitch from him. Gabriel Magalhaes gave Gross the yard he needed. The defending at the corner for the third was, in the view of even sympathetic Arsenal writers, not really defending at all. And when Arsenal did reach a promising area, there was no pace to run beyond anyone and no Plan B to reach for.
That last point is the structural one, and it did not appear on Saturday. It has been there since the window shut on September 1. Gabriel Martinelli went to Al Hilal. Gabriel Jesus went to Barcelona. Leandro Trossard went to Besiktas. In came Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, a fine footballer who has already started to build something with Kai Havertz and Riccardo Calafiori, but who arrived as a replacement for three departures rather than as an addition on top of them.
“A very disappointing result and performance. They were another gear from us in the basics of the game.”
Mikel Arteta, after the defeat at Brighton
David Ornstein of The Athletic has been blunt about what that means. Arsenal wanted a player to raise the level of their attack this summer and did not get one. Vinicius Junior was the headline pursuit. Julian Alvarez was a long-standing admiration. Malick Fofana was looked at as an investment. Bradley Barcola and Morgan Rogers were explored and ruled out. None of them moved at a price Arsenal were willing to pay, so the money stayed in the building. The owners, Ornstein says, showed a willingness to fund a marquee signing. The club simply could not land one.
The consequence is visible in a number that should trouble nobody and yet nags at everybody: eight goals in five Premier League matches, from around 6.8 expected goals. Arsenal are not failing to create. They are creating and then wasting, and they are doing it while scoring nothing at all from set pieces, the single most reliable source of goals in last season's title win. A team that took 19 league goals from corners in 2025-26, a competition record, has taken none from any dead ball in eight matches this term.

None of which makes the new contract strange. It makes it revealing. Arteta delivered the Premier League title, ending a 22-year wait and taking the club's tally to 14. He took them to a Champions League final in Budapest in May, where they drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain after extra time and lost 4-3 on penalties. He lost an EFL Cup final to Manchester City in March, then beat the same opponent 3-0 in the Community Shield in August. Tying him down now, with the squad unfinished, says the club believes the ceiling is above the roof they have already touched.
And the contract work does not stop with him. TEAMtalk has reported that talks with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber are all advancing alongside the manager's. The architecture of the next five years is being built during an international break, which is exactly when clubs of this size do their least visible and most consequential work.
There are three weeks until Arsenal play again, at Leeds United on October 10. That is an unusually long time to sit with a 3-0 defeat, and an unusually good time to fix what caused it. Arteta called Saturday a big lesson. He has just been handed the time, and the mandate, to prove he learned it.

Four Away Days and a Reckoning: Inside the Brighton Defeat
The 3-0 at the Amex was Arsenal's fourth consecutive away fixture in all competitions. By the end of it, the accumulated wear was visible in every department.
Arsenal had been to Naples, to Sunderland, to Ipswich and then to Brighton without a home fixture in between, and they won the first three. The night at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on September 9 was close to a masterclass: 76 per cent possession and eventually a Martin Odegaard strike off the post. Four days later came a 2-0 win at Sunderland. Three days after that, 4-2 at Ipswich Town with nine changes.
By Saturday the legs had gone and so had the shape. Fabian Hurzeler set Brighton & Hove Albion up to be, in his own description, horrible to play against, and they were. The press was relentless, the second balls were theirs, and Arsenal kept giving the ball back in the worst possible areas.
The midfield is where the argument will settle. Declan Rice and Bruno Guimaraes have not yet found each other. The 75 million pound signing from Newcastle United was sloppy in possession at the Amex, and the pair's lack of connection dragged Odegaard deeper and deeper to plug the gap, removing Arsenal's best creator from the places where he does damage. That is the puzzle Arteta has to solve before Leeds United.
Paul Scholes argued afterwards that Rice should have been sent off rather than booked. He was not, and he is available for the resumption. That will be the least of Arteta's concerns.

TRANSFER NEWS
The Superstar Arsenal Did Not Sign, and the January Question It Left Behind
Ornstein: the owners were willing. The market was not. Now the same question rolls into the winter.
The most important piece of Arsenal reporting this past week did not concern a player who is arriving. It concerned several who are not. David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed what the shape of the summer already implied: Arsenal needed and wanted a player to raise the level of their attack, and failed to sign one.
The list of names is not short. Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid was the primary target. Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid has been admired for years. Malick Fofana was assessed as an investment rather than a finished article. Bradley Barcola and Morgan Rogers were both looked at before being ruled out. In every case the valuation or the availability, or both, made the deal impossible at the price Arsenal had set for themselves.
Ornstein's framing of what comes next is worth quoting carefully, because it is a question rather than a prediction. One of the intriguing things, he said, whether it be January or next summer, is who is going to be the Arsenal attacking recruit to help take them to even greater heights. He added two caveats that matter: Arsenal must remain careful about UEFA's financial regulations, and a marquee arrival may require Viktor Gyokeres to be sold first.
Certainty tier: this is credible reporting on intent and market position, not a live negotiation. Nobody has bid. Nobody is in talks. Treat any January headline that attaches a fee to Vinicius Junior or Julian Alvarez with the suspicion it deserves until a second reliable name is attached to it.
There is a counter-argument, made by Sky Sports this month: with Odegaard, Havertz and Saka fit at the same time, Arsenal may not need the blockbuster. Odegaard scored once in 36 matches last season and opened this one with three goals in four across all competitions. Havertz matched him, and the trio supplied every one of Arsenal's first six league goals. The flaw in the argument is the one it has always had: it needs three players to stay healthy for nine months.

Rice Close to Five More Years, With Odegaard and Timber Behind Him
A reported 280,000 pounds a week, and an international break cleared specifically to get it done.
Declan Rice withdrew from England's Nations League squad on Saturday. The stated reason was workload, and it is a real one: 55 matches for Arsenal last season, seven of England's eight World Cup games while managing nerve pain in his hamstring, a curtailed pre-season, and then all five league games plus the trip to Napoli.
He is also, according to a FootballTransfers exclusive by Steve Kay published on Tuesday, on the verge of signing a new five-year contract worth a reported 280,000 pounds a week. His current deal runs to 2028 with a one-year option in Arsenal's favour, so there is no cliff edge here. This is a club paying to keep its most important player happy rather than one negotiating under duress.
Two cautions. First, the wage figure and the five-year length are single-sourced and have not been confirmed by a tier-one reporter or by the club. Second, nothing is signed. What can be said with more confidence, because TEAMtalk has reported it alongside the manager's own extension, is that Arsenal are working simultaneously on new deals for Rice, Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber.
Certainty tier: advanced talks, single-sourced on terms. Watch for David Ornstein or Fabrizio Romano to put their name to it. That is the moment it becomes real.

Madueke Stays: Arsenal Shut the Door on Juventus and Atletico
Twenty-four league minutes, a Carabao Cup goal, an England omission, and a manager who is not selling.
Noni Madueke has played 24 Premier League minutes this season, both from the bench, with no goals and no assists. He started the Community Shield, featured in the win at Napoli and volleyed one in at Ipswich Town. He was also left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad, with insufficient match fitness given as the reason.
Juventus and Atletico Madrid have both been monitoring the situation, and Juventus are reported to have explored a mid-season loan. Per Football Insider, relayed by Goal on September 21, Arsenal will reject any January approach. Mikel Arteta wants his attacking group kept intact, particularly given the squad is already lighter than he wanted it to be.
The complicating factor is not Bukayo Saka, who is untouchable on the right. It is Max Dowman, who is 16 and who keeps producing on the nights he is given. Madueke is reported to be willing to fight for his place. He will have to.

The Rumour Mill
Smaller live links, sagas still simmering, and the tells that come before an announcement.
Rio Ngumoha, Liverpool. The most interesting live thread, because it involves two tier-one reporters disagreeing about weight rather than about facts. David Ornstein confirmed on September 15 that there is some interest from Arsenal in the winger, while stressing that Liverpool want to renew him, that he is contracted to 2028 and that there is no suggestion he is unhappy. Fabrizio Romano placed any move in 2027 or 2028 rather than now. CaughtOffside reports that Arsenal's interest has prompted Liverpool to accelerate their contract talks, which is the tell worth watching. Certainty tier: concrete interest, no negotiation.
Vincent Joseph, Liverpool. This one is done. TEAMtalk reported on September 18 that Arsenal completed an out-of-window signing of the 16-year-old striker from Liverpool's academy on an initial first-year scholarship. Nine years at Anfield, three goals in two Liverpool Under-18 appearances, and eight goals in nine England Under-16 caps. Certainty tier: completed.
Viktor Gyokeres, outgoing. With his role reduced, Juventus, AC Milan, Al Ahli and Al Ittihad have all been linked with interest. Arsenal may prefer to keep him as striker cover. Ornstein's observation that a marquee attacking arrival might require a sale gives this thread more weight than it would otherwise carry. Certainty tier: monitoring only.
Max Dowman, loan interest. Multiple clubs have reportedly asked about a temporary move after the Ipswich brace, and Arteta is said to be open to it once the player turns 17 on December 31. Everything the manager has said publicly points the other way, towards protecting the boy's development rather than accelerating it. Certainty tier: speculation, with a real underlying decision to be made.
Also on the watch list. Endrick at Real Madrid, whose limited minutes Arsenal are said to be tracking ahead of January. Maximilian Beier at Borussia Dortmund, assessed by scouts as a Kai Havertz alternative for his link play. Givairo Read at Feyenoord, a right-back also credited to Liverpool and Manchester City. Certainty tier for all three: rumour and scouting, nothing further.
Andria Bartishvili, Kolkheti 1913. The 17-year-old Georgian attacker has a pre-contract agreement and joins when he turns 18 in 2027. Fabrizio Romano has relayed comparisons in Georgian football to a young Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Certainty tier: agreed, deferred.

THE SQUAD
The Set-Piece Machine Has Stalled, and It May Not Be an Accident
Nineteen corner goals last season, a Premier League record. None from any dead ball in eight matches this one. A rule change is hovering over the explanation.
The most striking statistic about Arsenal's start is not the eight goals or the one defeat. It is the zero. Eight matches into 2026-27, across the Community Shield, the Premier League, the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, Arsenal have not scored from a corner or a free kick.
To understand why that is remarkable you have to remember what last season was. Arsenal scored 19 Premier League goals from corners, breaking a record that had stood since 1992-93. Add indirect free kicks, direct free kicks and long throws and the total reaches 25 non-penalty set-piece goals, the most in the division and around 35 per cent of their 71 goals. No champion had previously taken more than 30 per cent of its non-penalty goals from dead balls.
At the other end they conceded only eight set-piece goals, a net swing of 17 and the best figure in the league.
The architecture belongs to Nicolas Jover, who arrived from Manchester City in July 2021 and built a system around crowding the goalkeeper in the six-yard box and attacking the flick-on at the back post. Gabriel Magalhaes was the primary target, winning first contact on 13 crossed corners. Declan Rice became the principal taker with 95 corners, 87 from the left, producing seven goals and 6.9 expected goals, the best of any taker in the league. Bukayo Saka handled the right.
CHART: THE CORNER COUNT
2025-26 19 Premier League goals from corners, a competition record
2024-25 16, the previous record, also Arsenal
2020-21 6, the season before Nicolas Jover arrived
2026-27 so far 0 in eight matches, from any dead ball
Arsenal goals from corners in the Premier League. Bars are scaled to the 19-goal record.
So what has changed? One candidate is the refereeing guidance introduced for this season, which instructs officials to be stricter about holding, pulling and wrestling in the penalty area at set pieces, with penalties explicitly available as a sanction. The guidance retains a high bar for intervention, and the Premier League has not framed it as being about any one club. Observers have nonetheless nicknamed it the anti-Arsenal rule, because the screening that lets Arsenal's runners get free is precisely the behaviour under review.
The counter-view, argued at Arseblog, is that this is an anomaly rather than a problem. Arsenal have come close: Jurrien Timber headed in an Odegaard delivery against Sunderland only to be ruled marginally offside. Eight games is a small sample against a season of evidence. Both things can be true, and how quickly the first corner goes in after the break will tell us which is dominant.
The other selection question is the centre-forward. Viktor Gyokeres scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, 14 in the league, and finished as Arsenal's top scorer. He has started twice in six this season and has not scored. At Napoli, where Arsenal generated more than four expected goals, he did not have a single shot. Tim Stillman's diagnosis at Arseblog is that he is a specialist in a system that does not have a specialism for him: limited in hold-up play, weakly involved in build-up, and not a volume scorer who compensates for either. Kai Havertz started the Champions League final. That is the hierarchy, whatever the fee said.
On the injury front there is genuine cause for optimism. Ben White is back in training and expected for the resumption. Cristhian Mosquera is close. Piero Hincapie was withdrawn from Ecuador duty as a precaution. William Saliba remains the long wait: a back problem with no return date, though Arteta has described the progression as really positive and the defender has been registered for the Champions League league phase, which Arteta called an easy decision.

HALE END
Dowman Takes Over at Portman Road
Two goals at 16, a debut at centre-back for Marli Salmon, a draw at Birmingham and a Dortmund loanee winning every week. The academy has rarely had a busier seven days.
Mikel Arteta made nine changes at Ipswich Town on September 15 and still won 4-2, and the reason was a boy born on the last day of 2009. Max Dowman scored in the seventh minute after skipping past Cedric Kipre and finishing with his weaker foot, then scored again two minutes into the second half after adjusting to a ricochet off a Martin Zubimendi pass. Noni Madueke volleyed a third in the 16th minute and Mikel Merino curled a fourth off the post just before the hour. Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom replied for the hosts.
Dowman already holds a shelf of records, set out in the box below. He has now added the first senior brace of his career. Arteta called some of his individual actions outstanding and then, in the same breath, insisted the club's job is to protect his long-term progression rather than accelerate it. That tension is going to define the next twelve months.
He was not the only teenager making a mark. Marli Salmon made his senior debut at centre-back at Portman Road and was, by the accounts of those watching, entirely composed. Four academy players finished the match on the pitch. Salmon has since withdrawn from the England Under-18 squad, while Dowman is away with the England Under-19s.
The Under-21s drew 0-0 away at Birmingham City on September 18, a third draw in four Premier League 2 matches. Ben Clarke and Elijah Upson were praised for defensive solidity, Ceadach O'Neill and Ayden Hashi created in the first half, and 16-year-old Elyon Mbala made his Under-21 debut at half time.
Two days earlier the same age group beat Leyton Orient 2-1 in the EFL Trophy, Archie Stevens equalising on the stroke of half time and Andre Harriman-Annous winning it in the 90th, with goalkeeper Khari Ranson making a crucial double save. James Scanlon, the 19-year-old signed from Manchester United in the summer, now has two goals in three and made the winner. David Horseman said he was really proud of them, and that it gave the group half a chance in the final group game.
Out on loan, the headline remains Ethan Nwaneri at Borussia Dortmund, who have won four straight. He played 62 minutes in Saturday's 1-0 win at Stuttgart, having hit the post in a 3-2 Champions League win over Villarreal and started a 3-0 win against Paderborn.
The rest had a harder weekend. Tommy Setford played 90 minutes for Stevenage in a 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient, though his arrival had coincided with the club's first wins of the League One season. Ismeal Kabia played 77 minutes for St Mirren in a 3-0 home defeat to Dundee United. Charles Sagoe Jr played all 90 for Kalmar FF in a 5-0 loss to BK Hacken and was one of the few to emerge with credit.
One more thread worth tracking: Andrea Berta's youth recruitment. The sporting director completed an out-of-window move for 16-year-old Liverpool academy striker Vincent Joseph on September 18, the sixth significant teenage signing of his tenure, after Mylo Bernard, Axel Donczew, James Scanlon, Habeeb Ogunneye and the pre-contract for Andria Bartishvili. Hale End is no longer only Hale End.

ARSENAL WOMEN
Europe Arrives at Meadow Park With the Goals Still Missing
Two goals in three WSL matches, a 94th-minute rescue against Manchester United, and a Champions League campaign that starts tonight.
Renee Slegers has been careful not to panic, and she is right not to. Arsenal are unbeaten in the Women's Super League, with five points from three matches and one goal conceded. What they have not done is score, and in a league this tight that is the only statistic anyone is discussing.
The sequence, set out in the box below, produced two goals in three games with almost three hours between them. Slegers has been precise about the diagnosis: the way Arsenal progress up the pitch is good, the way they dominate is good, and then the final third is where it goes. She frames it as both a tactical and a psychological problem, which is an unusually honest thing for a manager to say in September.
Tonight the competition changes. Arsenal open their Women's Champions League league phase against HB Koge at Meadow Park, the first of six games in a group that also contains Lyon, Barcelona, Benfica, Paris FC and Inter Milan. The Danish champions are backed by Ballard Capital, the ownership behind the Kansas City Current, they sit top of their domestic league, and they counter quickly through two dangerous forwards. Arsenal beat them 3-0 in the same competition in November 2021.
Slegers has signalled heavy rotation, with Chelsea away on Sunday and Paris FC away on September 30 immediately behind it, and she has framed the squad depth as something that lets her select with confidence rather than reluctance. Geraldine Reuteler has yet to make her Arsenal debut and should feature. Selina Cerci, who came on against Manchester United, is likely to start.

The context for all of this is a genuinely radical summer. Arsenal signed Georgia Stanway from Bayern Munich, Ona Batlle from Barcelona, Selina Cerci from Hoffenheim, Geraldine Reuteler from Eintracht Frankfurt, Misa Rodriguez from Real Madrid, Isabella Damm from Brondby, Elisa De Almeida from Paris Saint-Germain and Lisa Baum from RB Leipzig, most of them on free transfers.
Out went Beth Mead to Manchester City, Katie McCabe to Chelsea, Laia Codina to West Ham United, Victoria Pelova to Tottenham Hotspur, Manuela Zinsberger to Borussia Dortmund, plus Rosa Kafaji, Jenna Nighswonger, Vivianne Lia and Laila Harbert.
The numbers behind the arrivals are striking. Opta noted that Stanway has completed more passes in the opposition half since 2022-23 than anyone in the Bundesliga, at 2,919, and scored 24 league goals with 19 assists. Cerci scored 32 in 43 Bundesliga appearances at a shot-conversion rate of 25.4 per cent, against 15.8 for Alessia Russo and 16.7 for Stina Blackstenius. Batlle won 43 tackles, joint-most of any defender in the Champions League over the period measured. If the finishing is the problem, Arsenal have at least bought specifically for it.
The injury list is the one real constraint. Daphne van Domselaar is out with a knee problem, with October the target rather than a promise. Michelle Agyemang and Katie Reid are both back in training after cruciate injuries. Elisa De Almeida is not expected back until after the October window, and Lotte Wubben-Moy was to be assessed before kickoff tonight.
It is worth remembering the standard being defended. Arsenal won the Women's Champions League in 2025, reached the semi-finals last season before losing 4-3 on aggregate to OL Lyonnes, and beat Corinthians 3-2 after extra time at the Emirates in February to win the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup, Caitlin Foord scoring in the 104th minute. Slegers signed a contract through 2029 on the back of it. Two goals in three league games is a blip measured against that. It only becomes a story if it is still true in November.

GUNNERS ABROAD
Seventeen Gunners, Nine Countries, One Extended Interlull
The merged September and October window keeps Arsenal's players away until the first week of October. Twice this week they play each other.
This is the first season of the combined September and October international window, and it is why Arsenal do not play a club fixture again until Leeds United on October 10. Seventeen players have gone, spread across nine national teams, which is the largest group the club has sent away in a single break.
The fixture of the week is Saturday at Wembley, where England host Spain. Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ezri Konsa line up against David Raya, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino. Thomas Tuchel named a 27-man squad for the four-game window after England's World Cup bronze. Lewis-Skelly's recall is the notable selection, having missed the tournament through a shortage of minutes. Madueke's omission is the notable absence.
There is a second Arsenal-against-Arsenal fixture on Thursday, when Jurrien Timber's Netherlands host Kai Havertz's Germany in Amsterdam, and the two meet again in the reverse arrangement later in the window. Havertz is scheduled for only the first two matches of the window.
Elsewhere: Martin Odegaard captains Norway against Denmark on Thursday and Portugal on Sunday. Riccardo Calafiori has Italy against Belgium on Friday and Turkiye on Monday. Gabriel Magalhaes and Bruno Guimaraes are with Brazil for friendlies against Australia on Friday and again next Tuesday, both at three in the morning Pacific time for anyone sufficiently committed.
Christos Tzolis is with Greece against Serbia and then Germany. Viktor Gyokeres is with Sweden against Romania and Poland, and has rarely needed a goal more.
Two academy players are away with senior squads: James Scanlon with Gibraltar, for a friendly on Wednesday and a Nations League tie against Andorra on Sunday, and Ceadach O'Neill with Northern Ireland against Georgia and Hungary. Max Dowman is with the England Under-19s.
Two withdrawals. Declan Rice pulled out of the England squad to manage his workload and will remain at London Colney. Piero Hincapie was withdrawn from the Ecuador squad with a groin issue and the same load-management reasoning. Marli Salmon has withdrawn from the England Under-18s and was replaced by Chelsea's Gabriel Sambou.

IN BRIEF
Arsenal were drawn away to Fleetwood Town of League Two in the Carabao Cup fourth round, to be played in the week beginning October 26. It is the first competitive meeting between the clubs, and Arsenal are the only Premier League side drawn against a non-Premier League opponent in the round. Fleetwood's ground is called Highbury Stadium, which will write its own headlines.
The 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place in London on October 26, the first time the award has left Paris. Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are nominated for the men's award, Alessia Russo and Mariona Caldentey for the women's, David Raya for the Yashin Trophy and Mikel Arteta for coach of the year. Arsenal are nominated for men's club of the year.
Two more November fixtures have been moved for broadcast. The trip to Liverpool shifts to a Sunday 4:30pm kick-off in the United Kingdom, which is 8:30am Pacific.
Arsenal are exploring a significant redevelopment of London Colney, per Andrew Allen at Arseblog News: a purpose-built men's hub bringing the performance centre, medical facilities, changing rooms, offices and media space under one roof, with the existing buildings handed to the women's team. Separately, Gary Jacob has reported that the Emirates expansion is now more likely to add around 5,000 premium seats than the 10,000 general capacity once discussed.
Kieran Tierney, the former Arsenal left-back now at Celtic, withdrew from the Scotland squad with a knock picked up in a 1-0 defeat to Rangers.
Granit Xhaka, the former Arsenal captain now at Sunderland, is under investigation by Swiss prosecutors over an allegedly forged Covid-19 certificate dating from 2022, and has withdrawn from the Switzerland squad. Arsenal are not implicated in any way.
Martin Odegaard's winner at Napoli on September 9, a strike off the post after build-up involving Ben White and Christos Tzolis, gave Arsenal three points from their Champions League opener in a league phase that also brings Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis, Lille, Slavia Prague and Sabah.
